The gap

The Problem Your Contract Creates

A single 33 kV distribution transformer holds anywhere from 500 to 2,000 litres. When you top up, filter or fully replace that charge, the displaced oil becomes Schedule I, Category 5.1 hazardous waste the moment it leaves the tank — and it is standing in drums on your client's premises with your name on the job card.

You are a contractor, not a recycler
Unless you hold hazardous waste authorization in your own right, you cannot lawfully accumulate, transport or dispose of the oil you remove. Most service companies do not, and should not need to.

The asset owner stays liable
The generator is the utility, industrial plant or building owner — not you. They need a Form 10 showing the oil reached an authorized recycler. If you cannot produce that route, you have handed them a problem alongside the invoice.

Tenders increasingly ask
PSU and DISCOM scopes now routinely require the bidder to name the authorized disposal chain. Naming a CPCB-registered re-refiner with a valid registration number is a scoreable answer.

PCB is the risk nobody checks
Older transformer oil can contain PCBs. That is a separate and far more tightly controlled category. It must be screened before anyone moves it — including us.

How We Work With Service Companies

Named in your tender response
Use our CPCB EPR Recycler Registration and RPCB authorization as the documented disposal route in your bid. We will provide the certificate copies you need to attach.

We collect from the client site
Our RPCB-authorized vehicles lift from the substation or from your yard, whichever the job needs.

Form 10 raised to the asset owner
The manifest names the actual generator, which is what the owner needs for their own records. You stay out of the hazardous waste chain entirely.

Per-litre payment, not a disposal charge
Used transformer oil is a recoverable dielectric-grade stock. Depending on condition and volume we pay for it rather than charging to take it.

What We Need Before We Lift

Volume and transformer detail
Approximate litres, voltage class and the age of the unit.

A PCB screening result
Mandatory. We cannot accept PCB-containing oil — it is outside our authorization and we will say so rather than take it and work it out later.

Generator details for the manifest
The asset owner's name, site and authorization particulars, so the Form 10 is raised correctly against the actual generator.

Access and handling
Whether the oil is drummed or needs tanker uplift, and any site permit conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

We are an oil filtration contractor, not a waste handler. Do we need our own authorization?
Generally no, provided the oil moves directly from the generator's site to an authorized recycler under a Form 10 naming the generator. Problems arise when contractors accumulate oil at their own yard without authorization. Talk to us before you take that route.
Who is named as the generator on the Form 10?
The asset owner — the utility, plant or building owner whose transformer it came out of. Not the service contractor. That is what keeps you outside the hazardous waste chain.
Can you take PCB-contaminated transformer oil?
No. PCB-containing oil sits under a separate and much more tightly controlled regime and is outside our authorization. It must be screened first. We would rather decline it than mishandle it.
Do you pay for used transformer oil, or is there a disposal charge?
In most cases we pay. Used transformer oil is a recoverable stock and, depending on condition, is worth more than general used engine oil. Heavily degraded or contaminated material is priced differently.
Can we name BIOCIL in a tender before we have worked together?
Yes, and many partners do. We will provide copies of our CPCB EPR Recycler Registration and RPCB Hazardous Waste Authorization for you to attach to the bid.
Do you handle the transformer oil regeneration itself, or only disposal?
We re-refine used oil at our own plant in Jaipur. Where oil is recoverable to dielectric specification rather than being re-refined into base oil, tell us — the commercial treatment differs.
